I used to love Oblique Fast Forward by Givenchy as

I used to love Oblique Fast Forward by Givenchy as a teen and young adult, but fast forward a million years and I now gravitate more towards its more grown-up sibling Rewind, which is a woody-cherry delight. Fast Forward is a straight up rewind into my youth though, so even though I now no longer tend to enjoy aquatics much, I still think this was one of the best and definitely sexiest aquatics I ever owned or smelled.
To me this smells sour in the top (might be the juice’s old old age), but I quickly get bright ozonic fruity notes with peppery woods and animalic musk. An interesting and unique fresh, sexy combo. This entire Oblique line was a line of cheapies marketed towards young woman and they all smell almost niche quality imo. Pity they were discontinued and an even bigger pity that young girls now seem to be stuck with Victoria’s Secret and Juicy Couture headache bombs.
The bottles were also super unique, fun and practical. Still available online here and there but at inflated prices.

This Franck Muller tester bottle called “Aeterni

This Franck Muller tester bottle called “Aeternitas” was sent to me for free an Aeternity ago after I contacted them looking for a sample. The fleeting opening is juicy, bright, and beautiful with a touch of cinnamon and florals in the heart, quickly settling into a phenomenal, warm cherry leather base. Vanilla, Tonka and amber sweeten and smooth out the masculine leather, turning it into a very accessible leather scent for women too.
It’s reminiscent of Lost Cherry with added leather and less booze. It’s darker and more masculine than Lost Cherry, and unlike Lost Cherry it lasts an Aeternitas.
One of the very best cherry fragrances I’ve smelled (and I have over 50 cherry fragrances lined up for a cherry video I’ve been working on for aeternity).
A truly fantastic hidden gem, albeit pricey, housed in luxurious packaging.
Fun detail: the innovative golden bottle is shaped like the Franck Muller Aeternitas watch face and the cap looks like a classic watch crown. Just beautiful and timeless. Something I will treasure for all Aeternitas (sorry I’ll stop now 😂).

Now THIS is a vanillic suede I love. Nathalie Feisthauer makes some delicious leather and amber-based scents, and Sous Le Manteau’s Cuir d’Orient is no different. “Sous le manteau” means “under the coat”, or “clandestinely” / “undercover”. Maybe it depicts the sexy and gentle nature of the scents, meant to be worn in secret, meant to show their true colours when clothes go off.

Easy to wear and hard not to like, it seems like a safe blind buy if you get if at a good price.

Resembles Cuir Beluga, but I haven’t spent enough time with Cuir Beluga to have anything sensible to say about the two side by side, so all I can say is this Cuir d’Orient is lovely and I wear it a lot.
I get tons of benzoin and powdery, sophisticated vanilla, smooth suede, some orris root and almond.
It’s smooth and rather soft, with moderate longevity and sillage, making it perfect for easy everyday wear. I gravitate towards it when I’m in the mood for a comforting bed-scent, and I tend to overspray it a bit. Lovely suede-like bottle too with a nice ceramic medallion that could be used as a car scent diffuser, a necklace diffuser or a wardrobe or doorknob diffuser. All I know is tha’ d if y’ use ‘er you’ll enjoy ‘er.

Whoever named Cuir Noir must have been at least tipsy, cos this is not dark, and the “Cuir” is at best a smooth velvety suede with some saffron, rose, oud and sandalwood.

Picture the inside of a forgotten old suede purse with remnants of spoiled old powdery lipstick and a spilled Oud Bouquet sample, all blended joyfully in a bubbly washing machine (gentle setting of course), and air-dried in the sun hanging near a kitchen table made of sandalwood on which a señorita wearing a leather apron and a rose in her hair is putting the finishing touches to her vanillic, nutmeggy crema catalana.
Sounds okay, and it is. But it’s also weak sauce. Terrible sillage and longevity, nothing innovative and heavily overpriced, so I couldn’t recommend this.
I got a used second hand bottle for peanuts and like it enough for what I paid, but would not have been happy with it had I paid full price.

This Masterpiece with a capital M is probably my favourite designer fragrance of all time. Elixir des Merveilles is bold, classy, sexy, effortless, addictive and unique. These juxtaposed attributes reflect in the notes too, seemingly clashing but smoothly blended together in a unique way. It’s unique as in I have nothing else like it and will never smell like thirteen in a dozen wearing this, and it has a stunning, recognisable bottle design that matches with the dark, warm, sparkling juice inside (how cute is my “Eau des Merveilles” mini necklace btw).

Picture a plump, red orange dipped in molten salty caramel and resins (Siam Resin, amber and Peru balsem) balanced out with aromatic, woody incense notes that keep it from being overly sweet.
A perfectly unisex, versatile 10/10 by legendary master perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena.

Dior’s Addict Eau Délice is a discontinued frui

Dior’s Addict Eau Délice is a discontinued fruity flanker with a generic, fruity (cranberry), designer opening. Like sweet, powdery baby shampoo. The floral-musky-cherry-almond dry-down is pretty nice though. Longevity is okay but sillage and projection are very intimate on me. Spraying more could help with this lack of dry-down-oomph if the opening doesn’t give you a headache.
Got this last year for quite cheap and I’m content to have it, but I wouldn’t recommend rushing out to blind buy this at the price it is currently going for. Mediocre, wearable Demachy creation often compared to his more expensive Happy Hour.

Bought “Naughty Fruity” by Mugler at almost ha

Bought “Naughty Fruity” by Mugler at almost half-off from @superwinkel after seeing it was discontinued / out of stock everywhere else. I typically love plum and tobacco so I thought it was a safe blind buy, but alas, it’s an overly sweet generic fruity mess for me, so I will be re-selling it soon.

I bought Oyuny by Al Haramain mainly for the extravagant bottle and low price (15€) and even though I hate the dry-down of this cloying, fruity horror show, I must say the bottle makes up for it and feels surprisingly expensive.

In a nutshell: both smell cheap, cloyingly sweet and generically fruity.

Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling opens zingy and aromatic and straight up smells of juniper berries and vetiver. Now I don’t really want to smell like a gin tonic, so I was glad to find the dry-down more nuanced and woody, less spiky, and slightly more fruity-sweet.
It leans a bit masculine, especially in the opening, but that unique dry-down is lovely on me. Intimate and short-lived, but still a bittersweet, mouth puckering delight.

Le Labo’s city Exclusive “Benjoin 19” is packed with benzoin, olibanum, amber, cedar wood and mild spices. It reminds me of Lubin’s Akkad or Ambre Sultan, just more well-behaved, lighter, milder, heavier on the benzoin, and smoother. It’s a lovely, elegant and easy to wear unisex resin blend, but ridiculously overpriced.
I got it second-hand at a quarter of the price (thanks to the missing label) and I like it a lot, but it’s just not unique or spectacular enough to warrant the whopping (+/-) 450 dollars it normally costs.

50 Shades of Rouge Smoking

Destined to meet in the romantic city of Florence, the rugged yet elegant bottle was eyeing me from across the room of the Pitti Fragranze perfume expo hall. Its bright red juice seemed to summon my name. “Eeeeeevaaaaah… Eeeeevaaaah”.
Entranced, I floated towards the BDK stand, carefully picked up the firm body of deliciousness that some may call a bottle, and carefully u̶n̶z̶i̶p̶p̶e̶d̶, uncapped the bottle, squirting its contents liberally all over my inner kneecaps (I had no room left elsewhere on my already perfume-drenched body). The movement of my legs seemed to make lil’ Rouge want to peep up and join in on the walk. Or maybe the red rascal just had a thing for upskirts.
Rouge followed me for what seemed like an eternity. Not in a stalker kind of way, but in a romantic awesome sillage kind of way. Heads turned as we strolled through the city together, and its scent trail never left my side, like a perfectly trained puppy, or an engaged, present man. Puppy-man. Same Same.
At nightfall, we bid each other a bitter-sweet adieu in the hotel shower, but I knew I’d smell Rouge again the next day.
Nevertheless, I had to keep an open mind since the expo was overflowing with delicious, interesting options waiting to be tried out. Keep my options open you know. I had, after all, not spent that much time with Rouge yet, however intense and pleasurable our time together had been. So some time apart to reflect seemed wise.
It had been 7 hours and 15 minutes, since the soap took my Rouge away.
Since Rouge had been gone I could do whatever I wanted. I could smell whatever I chose. But nothing, I said nothing could take away these Rouge blues. Cause nothing compared. Nothing compared to Rouge.
I could put my arms around every bottle I saw, but they'd only remind me of Rouge.

Soooo I decided then and there I would take a leap of faith, commit, and buy myself a full bottle so we could be together forever.
But alas! The BDK sales person informed me there was no way I could make a purchase at the expo, so I left empty handed, disappointed and utterly heartbroken.

“In the Dark” is missing on Fragrantica and almost nobody seems to have reviewed it yet, but that doesn’t mean we’re missing much. Tons of citrus, peppermint, a hint of rose and a rather churchy incense. Could be an interesting combination of notes, and it kind of is, but to me this smells the way a Catholic Church’s toilets would smell like. Holy toilet water with tons of incensy citrus. Amen.

Disclaimer: I purchased this one for half off but the bottle had leaked all over the place and pretty much ruined the bottle and cap, so the store was nice enough to send my money back and let me keep the bottle.
I love quite a few from this line but this isn’t one of them.

Akkad by Lubin is warm, spicy, resinous and aromat

Akkad by Lubin is warm, spicy, resinous and aromatic in the same vein as Lutens’ Ambre Sultan, but less camphorous and with a less churchy incense, making it easier to wear for me. The sillage and longevity are great, the price is reasonable for the quality, and the bottle is one of my favourites in my collection. Good blind buy if you love warm, resinous scents.

Black I by Widian is a warm, calming, coniferous, spicy perfume in the most beautiful packaging you’ll ever see. Not the most unique or exciting, but very wearable and easy-going whilst also mysterious and gently deep.
With the cardamon, cinnamon and touch of incense you’d think it could get overpowering, but it never does. Perfectly unisex, leaning slightly masculine.
Projection is quite intimate but longevity is good (with 1 or 2 sprays).
Price is up there (at around 215 euros for 50ml), but I was lucky enough to pick it up for 115 euros on sale @skinscosmeticsofficial

Stoked to have found this heavily discounted Widian (115€) and Skins’ great value “perfume miracles” discovery box full of 5-10ml minis @30euros.
I had extensively tested the entire Widian line a while back and love many of them, and even though I’m not sure if Black I is my favourite of their line I sure loved it enough to get a full bottle after a month of perfume purchasing abstinence.

Sampled Anamcara extensively and fell in love, before deciding to buy a full bottle. Sweet blood orange, white florals, woody and fruity, just completely loveable and stunning in every way. It’s been compared to Baccarat Rouge 540, and I slightly see a small similarity, but I’m glad to say it’s not at all leaning towards the ‘copying category” and is a creative, brilliant perfume in its own right. Even better than BR540 to me, more complex, more beautiful, more unique. Another masterpiece from @ploiuma

I was lucky enough to be one of the first to receive a full bottle of this yet to be released beauty. The Zaharoff base was used for this, with added high quality tobacco. If you loved Rosé (which is still my favourite), you’ll love this too, since they share the same DNA and both have that smokey, incensy aspect. Tabac is Rosé’s winter brother.

I was scared it would be too masculine or overpowering on me, but it’s so beautifully blended, smooth and sensual, that it’s completely unisex and probably smells amazing on anyone.

Vie d’Amour by Aqaba: Mysterious, hard to pinpoint specific notes, a bit reminiscent of Penhaligon’s Changing Constance with an added hint of fruit and powder. Seductively sweet yet sophisticated and soft. Love wearing this when I want something soothing and ultra wearable.

I blind bought Auphorie’s Miyako after hearing p

I blind bought Auphorie’s Miyako after hearing perfume genius Luca Turin rave about it, and after not being able to buy a sample anywhere (despite my effort contacting the company). Unfortunately, this was an expensive mistake. I don’t dislike it and I can see the appeal of this interesting, well-blended animalic-osmanthus-leather fragrance, and I quite like the dry-down, but the first 2 hours or so are a challenge. It goes so skanky on me it’s hard to bear, especially for my surroundings.
Potent, great longevity, and 1 or 2 sprays are more than enough, but it’s just not worth the hype and extreme price tag imo. 318 US dollars for 40ml*, housed in a cheap bottle with defective cap when samples are hard / impossible to find? Nope.

*Correction: it is now sold in a different bottle at the same price with 10ml less. 30ml for 318$.
Interesting, sure, but not very wearable, heavily overpriced, and sampless (= sample less). Think I might sell this.

Rivière by Thameen slightly reminds me of a more masculine Baccarat Rouge 540 with added leather and spice. Must be the saffron. Not a dupe by a long shot, but if you like warm, spicy leather scents and BR540, you’ll probably love this one. Big thumbs up for me.

“Love, don’t be Shy” by @kilianparis. I find this one to be everything but shy, quite hard to love, and it’ll cost ya. You might love it at first but odds are big you’ll grow tired of it quickly, cos it’s just too loud and kind of sickening. Expensive, diabetes inducing pink marshmallow desert. Heavily candied orange blossom.
I tend to love sweet frags but this one’s too much even for me. Tolerable in small doses but easy to overdose on or grow sick of, which is why I recently sold my full bottle. Not mad about getting this travel size in the Skin’s autumn fragrance box though.
If you like this guimauve type fragrance but want something less loud and cloying housed in a prettier bottle, get Oriana by @parfumsdemarly instead. Or get Guimauve by @reminiscenceparis at a discounter’s for 25 bucks. Same vein. All pink.

A friend suggested this smells like Grand Soir, and I agree it is in the same vein. Vanilla Diorama might not be ground breakingly unique but it sure is versatile, hard to dislike, warm, cosy and smooth. I quite love this spicy, resinous vanillic delight. Not as great as Grand Soir but great enough.

Sweetie Aoud: My first and only full bottle of Roja Dove. I’ve had this for a while but I’ve been using this extremely sparingly. Hate to admit I love it.
An inoffensive oud that quickly settles into a gorgeous, decadent gourmand. I find it hard to identify individual notes in this complex blend, but the sweet, resinous notes with the woody notes plus cardamom = deliciously luxurious.
